The reason servers are telling you to eat at home is not because “it’s annoying” I have no problem communicating your allergies to every staff member.. what I CANNOT guarantee you is that they will follow all of the same safety precautions that you will at home, when you have servers food allergies, you are putting your health and well being in the hands of a 4 people in the kitchen who forget to salt fries or put bacon on a BLT sometimes… I’m not annoyed by you, but I am stressed for you.

as a server, all the people saying “eat at home” are ridiculous lmao. everytime someone tells me they have an allergy i ALWAYS will make sure to note it in the ticket AND communicate with the kitchen and a manager, and i have never once been annoyed doing so.

I see that some ppl in the comments clearly don’t understand how the food industry works. I’m a manager at a restaurant and it’s not that ppl like this are “annoying”. We know they can’t help their allergies. What we mean is that if someone is genuine severely allergic to any ingredient mentioned, it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE for there to be ZERO contamination no matter how many times employees wash their hands, sanitize, and change utensils. Therefore if there a chance you might “die/end up in the ER” for even a slight contamination you should not eat out.

As a server: Please for the love of your life, DO NOT hold back on your allergies. Please! you are not a burden, you are human. Everyone deserves to go out to eat (with some exceptions, but that's a personal thing). Please, always tell your server. Whether they ask or don't. We want to make sure you make it home safely and enjoy a meal you are paying for. 💙

I understand it sucks, but the truth is you can't eat out if this is the case. Restaurants cannot fully stop everything, clean and disinfect the whole kitchen, and then make just your dish to prevent any contamination. Look at epilepsy, the world doesn't stop for them, it just warns them when they may be in a dangerous scenerio and they're expected to handle it themselves from there.
