Busta Rhymes had a J Dilla beat and a vision: get Biggie, Nas and Method Man all on one record. Getting everyone in the same room turned out to be harder than it sounds. Nas and Method Man showed up to the first session. No Biggie. They came back for the second session. Still no Biggie,he had been in a serious car accident and the injury was preventing him from moving around easily. By the third session, Nas and Meth had lost patience and didn't come back. But this Biggie and Lil Cease pulled up. Nobody in the room had written a single word. Busta later said everyone was waiting to see what Biggie was going to do before they committed to anything. For hours, Biggie just sat in a studio chair, rolling blunts from mason jars of weed. An hour passed. Two hours. Busta was losing his mind. Then Biggie looked up and said: "I'm ready buss". He walked into the booth and laid the whole verse in one take. What came out of his mouth stunned everyone. Without ever naming 2Pac directly, every line pointed straight at him "not that thinner kid, bandanas, tattoos" the portrait was unmistakable, leaving no doubt about who he was talking about. Then Busta faced a decision. He was close with Tupac. " Ican't add fuel to this fire". He shelved the whole thing. Nas and Meth never laid their verses. The record known as "The Ugliest" never came out. Busta sat on Biggie's verse for years. He eventually told Diddy about it after Biggie was killed and Diddy had the verse placed on the Born Again posthumous album in 1999, but with Busta's own bars inserted over the lines where Biggie took shots at Pac, muting the diss. The real verse, with all the subliminal shots intact, still circulates today.
