February is not Valentines Day but also Heart Month They say the strongest hearts have the most scars There is nothing that can quite prepare you for the emotions that consume your heart and soul knowing your baby is about to have their chest cut open Seeing them in their surgical gown holding their hand with a team of health professionals all around you and watching while your child is getting put to sleep Knowing the severity of the surgery they are about to undergo and the gruelling recovery that they are about to go through and wondering how such a little tiny baby can endure such a process Indis had her surgery at 6 months old and the surgery took 6 hours 6 hours of anxiously waiting on that phone call to say they were done A sigh of relief but not for long as you know youre not out of the woods yet Walking into intensive care to see your beautiful baby but shes so swollen that it doesnt even look like her Not knowing what to do other than sit there and hold her hand and stroke her head Such a scary process knowing all possibilities of what could go wrong and putting your faith in people you dont know to look after your baby we stayed strong and kept ourselves together to be there for our beautiful Indi but thinking back over what we all went through is difficult Thankfully Indi has come on heaps and is thriving since this surgery She is an absolute WARRIOR People might wonder why we would keep these photos but its to remind us of how far we have come and to show Indi one day of just how much of a badass she is downsyndromeawareness downsyndromeassociation downsyndrome downsyndromelove trisomy21 downsyndromebaby
