@quinnie.org: if you have the symptoms, treat them. tell people you SUSPECT you have pots. what you should not be doing is saying that you do have it, because the symptoms overlap with SO MANY OTHER DISORDERS and without formal medical testing you will not be able to differentiate between the disorders, which leads to the spread of misinformation about these syndromes and this misinformation affects people’s daily life!!! #disability #accessibility #chronicallyill #chronicillness
self diagnosis is the only way i got my diagnosis i had to go to my doctors and say i think i had pots and i finally got diagnosed after three years of being told it was all in my head

ughhh wait but it takesss forever to get a diagnosis, multiple doctors have said i have POTS and EDS + more but i can’t get appointments with to get the official tests (they’re booking for MONTHS out) so like i have it but i don’t have an “official” diagnosis

Yes i will self diagnose until i can actually get the surgery for my diagnosis because i have to wait 2 years and i have most of the symptoms of the condition and it runs in 4 generations in my family and i know its not entirely different thanks🥰🥰

How hard is it to say i THINK I might have "insert condition" or that i belive that "insert condition" matches my symptoms best.

Omg it’s so annoying like just say that you think you have something for example I think I have endometriosis iv not been diagnosed I’m on the waiting list for gyne but I don’t go around saying I have it because I don’t know if I do it’s the same with autism like I’m pretty sure I’m autistic but I’m not diagnosed as I’m still waiting for the results so untill I get that bit of paper I don’t have those things I just think I do

I agree with this so much like I tell people I have pots and they think I’m self diagnosed but no I have visited so many doctors and water ages to get that diagnosis, I’m fortunate enough for it to only have taken around 3 ish months but then when people say they have pots it’s not even true

I agree, but also there's a difference between saying you're self diagnosed, and saying a condition is suspected but you're waiting for specialized testing. people need to learn the difference 😭😭

ive never understood self-diagnosis. i might have crohns disease or some sort of IBD (symptoms align, family history as well). i’m unable to afford testing for it cus its pretty elaborate so i treat the symptoms. its essentially what a doctor would have me doing *if* i had a diagnosis. OTC meds, diet changes, tracking food reactions, and vitamin supplements as needed. its unfortunate but it doesnt mean we (people who cant afford formal diagnosis) get to equate our experiences to someone who does have a formal diagnosis who has gone through testing.

I’m on the road to getting diagnosed and the doctors, me and my mum are convinced I have it but I’d never tell people I have it until I’ve actually been diagnosed

my mom takes my EoE diagnosis i “gave” her as fact. 3 years later, i was diagnosed and she gives me advice. 😭 but anyway, i’m so glad my main condition (not the EoE) is never talked about on social media, lol.

You can suspect it like "oh I think i have [condition]" is fine! But not to say you have it

Personally I have tics since more than a year but cant get a diagnosis. I dont claim to have a specific tic disorder, but i know i have SOMETHING. Sometimes self diagnoses are okay, for example i also know i have depression because ive had the symptoms consistently for 3-4 years. I only got to seeking a diagnosis when i got better, and then i didnt meet the criteria anymore because I got BETTER. It fucking sucks i dodnt go through all that to then get dismissed. I pisses me off sometimes, there are valid times to self diagnose.

My mum told me she believed that I have fibromyalgia and I have been diagnosed with now, I didn’t go around saying I had fibromyalgia until I got my diagnosis a month later. However before I was diagnosed I did say I had chronic pain which hadn’t been spesifically diagnosed in an appointment however showed up on multiple of my medical letters and main bullet points of my letters and I had the pain for 5 years before I have just started to get medical intervention now. I still don’t know everything about fibromyalgia so I don’t say anything I don’t know to stop spreading misinformation.

Exactly! I hate people going “it’s valid if you have no resources”, because no. You cannot self diagnose yourself for serious conditions.

Heavily agree but it is also important to note sometimes a lot of doctors fail to properly diagnose (doctors took over 2 years to diagnose me + neglected me with a hormonal disorder I suspected I had) and also many people can't afford or are in the place to get a proper diagnosis! We need to fix the American medical system bad 🙁

"but what if theres a medical situation and they dont listen when i say i think i have (somethinh that might affect a medical procedure)" if its not on your chart they wont care anyhow. saying you suspect something is still more helpfull than saying you have something when you arent diagnosed. because unfortunately medical personal SUCK so they will question you and invalidate you if you claim yo have something withoht a diagnosis for it.
