@raeee._9: #THEOUTSIDERS ||| 1. police brutality: pretty much everyone can agree that dally having an unloaded gun and the officers shooting him (not just shooting him, but doing so quickly) is police brutality. 2. sexism: this one is pretty self explanatory. all the greasers in at least the curtis gang—yes, including ponyboy—have been said to be at least a little bit of a womanizer. they harass girls and at the drive-in, ponyboy is only sorry because they were soc girls. 3.class divide: the only one anyone seems to talk about, class divide. the typical rich, powerful socs looking down on the greasers, who can’t do much of anything other than defend themselves. 4. child neglect: child neglect itself is not considered political (while it should be), but the government/authority not doing anything about it is political. again, the greasers don’t have any power in the situation, but this can branch out to the socs, as well. bob was neglected, which led to his death. the kids don’t have power to do anything except run away, which will then leave a reputation for whichever side they’re on. 5. white privilege: this one is more prominent in the musical song, “justice for tulsa”, and the obc agrees. the socs are all primarily white, while the greasers have more diversity. the local paper goes back and forth between calling the socs assets to society and menaces, while they just stay on the menace part of the greasers. 6. foster care: foster care itself is very political due to the fact it is government funded, but ponyboy and his brothers don’t paint it into a pretty picture. it’s cruel. it’s ugly. people get beat up and neglected in foster care. they keep it real that foster care is the last place that ponyboy wants to end up. #booksarepolitical #sehinton #fyp #xyzcba

The fact SE Hinton didn’t put her full real name on the book so people didn’t know she was a woman and they’d read the book

Dally raised the gun, and I thought: You blasted fool. They don’t know you’re only bluffing. And even as the policemen’s guns spit fire into the night I knew that was what Dally wanted. He was jerked half around by the impact of the bullets, then slowly crumpled with a look of grim triumph on his face. He was dead before he hit the ground. But I knew that was what he wanted, even as the lot echoed with the cracks of shots, even as I begged silently—Please, not him . . . not him and Johnny both—I knew he would be dead, because Dally Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted.

FINALLY SOMEONE INCLUDED POLICE Brutalilty. it pmo sooo bad whenever ppl leave it out because dally never even fired the weapon (considering it was unloaded) and he was CLEARLY injured. people have argued against me but i deadass wanted to be a cop for 6 years and did insane amounts of research on it. idgaf if it was the 60s it was still terrible

S.E Hinton wrote the book off the things that happened in her high school when she was around 16 and released the book when she was 18 and the full meaning is about class division and how things or people aren't what they seem

How is police brutality… the whole point is that the cops didn’t know his gun was empty and that’s excavtly what dally wanted them to think

Bro I saw the outsiders book at barns and nobles in the ban book section and my jaw dropped it’s such a good book and educational on so many heartbreaking topics people really will just ban anything that makes you think.
