I am a committed Republican but I feel like we have this whole college tuition thing wrong. statistically speaking a college graduate will pay about $400,000 more in federal taxes in their lifetime than a high school graduate alone. Again that's more not total. They still pay what they would if they went to high school plus an additional $400,000. College education by itself is a net financial benefit to the federal government. Even if every student got an $80,000 grant to go to school the federal government would still be profiting at least $320,000 per person for that investment.

I went to two trade schools. My father put $10 into a fund for me every paycheck until I became an adult. It was my responsibility to do with that money as I could. I ended up living at home after I graduated and paid him back. Then I was debt-free. I am now 49 years old with a lucrative career and zero debt.
