I say "Hi, I can help you" and this lady stares at me, as I'm standing behind the till. She just stands there. After about a minute she walks up and says "hello, I want my order taken. I didn't know if I could because you didn't say I could order" and I was a little baffled

I will stand awkwardly until gestured over and then I'll start with 'Hi! how are you?' just to he met with a 'how are you?' and then my brain is fried for the rest of the day. as a customer, anyway.

The only time I understand is at a bar. After we greet eachother and I get a menu and they walk away I don’t wanna appear rude when the server is actively doing something, so I just wait for them to check on me. Anywhere else it’s weird
