Exercises like this are a great a way to learn watercolor in a low pressure way. You don't have to paint a perfect flower to get started, sometimes simple strokes and colors are the best way to get started painting as well as improve your skills. They allow you to feel successful from the get-go, plus they allow you to practice repetitive motions and learn lots of skills! I would do all of one direction first and then the other that way you can see how the colours change depending on which colour was put down first it would be a helpful guide you could use later
