On April 14, Visa announced it is one of the first companies running on Stripe's new money network, Tempo, built on a crypto rail. Visa does not get paid in fees or stock here. It gets paid in the new digital dollars moving on the network itself. Here are the receipts. Stripe is the payment company behind millions of online businesses. It processed 1.9 trillion dollars last year and is now valued at 159 billion. It bought Bridge, a digital dollar company, for 1.1 billion. It bought Privy, a crypto wallet. Then it launched Tempo, which has been live since March. Look who is building on it. OpenAI. Deutsche Bank. Standard Chartered. And Visa itself. There is a product called Open Issuance where any business can launch its own digital dollar in days, with the reserves managed by BlackRock and Fidelity. Klarna, with over 100 million customers, is launching KlarnaUSD. And Tempo raised 500 million dollars, led by Thrive Capital and Greenoaks, some of the most connected money in the world. Sit with what this means. A private company is quietly becoming a private central bank, and Visa is not fighting it. Visa is getting paid in its currency to help run it.
