A stream of compressed air is fed into this vintage Friemann & Wolf safety lamp, and within seconds it begins glowing brightly without being plugged into any electrical source. As the air supply is shut off, the light gradually fades as the internal mechanism slows to a stop. Inside the lamp, the incoming compressed air spins a small, high-speed turbine. That turbine drives an internal magneto, or generator, which converts the turbine's mechanical rotation into electricity to power the bulb. The characteristic high-pitched whine is the sound of the turbine reaching operating speed. Air-powered safety lamps like this were designed for hazardous environments such as coal mines and oil tankers, where electrical sparks could ignite flammable gases. By generating electricity only from compressed air, they provided a reliable source of illumination while greatly reducing the risk of explosions. No copyright infringement intended. And the compressed air is what?
Right, an external power source 😂

ShiroNeko :
the amount of people bringing up that the air compressor is powered by electricity not understanding that this is a SEALED electrical system that cannot create sparks for use in sensitive environments 😹😹

Spünman :
when they say "no external power source" it means no wiring or plug. all of the electrical parts are sealed inside to prevent explosions.

generally used in ATEX zones where they are worried about sources of ignition in places like coal mines or flour mills

It's Just Me... AGAIN! :
Why don't people recognize that this isn't being presented as a low cost energy device, "free energy" type of thing or even efficient. It's just a design that allows you to have a light in conditions that other forms of light would be dangerous or not viable.

Is compressed air not an “external power source”?

Probably only hearing it because the outlet side is open. I imagine that they're intended to be piped together. To the glancing observer, they would probably leven ook like they're connected through conduit.

It’s using an external power source tho

Yee yee :
Technically it still has an external power source… air pressure turns turbine, turbine turns generator, generator produces electricity. Energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be converted.
