@anewtherapyandwellness: What is something that you took away from therapy? Some people feel uncertain or on the fence about seeking mental health services because of stigma surrounding it, negative experiences, or they just don’t know what to expect. What’s something that sticks with you from your experience? #therapytiktok #therapist #blacktherapist #studenttherapist #therapy

Therapy has not only given me a deep understanding of myself, but the people around me. I find it easier to hold compassion for myself and understand why other people do the things they do, and to also recognize how to approach others negative actions with kindness and compassion. I used to have these terrible moments where everything felt like it was crumbling and I felt every single emotion all at once. I learned to identify what I’m actually feeling, which has allowed me to process it. I’ve gained the ability to allow myself space to feel what I need to and to have negative thoughts without drowning in them. Being able to process them helps me get to the root cause and actually take the steps to improve my life and mental wellbeing.

I was working with a past therapist on balancing anxious thoughts and one day i just had the sudden realization of "oh if i can find my significant other annoying at times but still love them then maybe i can still be loved/loveable even if i am a little annoying sometimes". It was a realization that happened outside of therapy that happened because of the foundation of what was happening in therapy and really helped with some of my relationship anxiety/insecurity I was having at the time.

To be honest I used to be on the higher scale of disassociation so I can’t remember who I was 5 years ago when I started. I never really thought therapy would be so hard (everyone says it is) but it is so worth it. Another persons calm attunement has helped me tremendously figure out how to regulate myself when 5 years ago, I had no idea what that even meant/how to do it.

I was going for OCD and telling her all of my intrusive thoughts. She told me that my thoughts are the exact opposite of me and my morals. Like my brain is trying to protect me in a way.

1. what does a life worth living look like for me? what will help me get there? what will take me further away? 2. Radically accepting my lack of control gives me freedom. if I can't do anything about it, it's not mine to carry. I can put it in the fuck it bucket. take on a bit of a "la dee dah, not my job, not my concern" attitude about it. this vastly improved my feelings about my job, and all the things I anguish about that are frankly out of my purview. a little apathy is incredibly healthy. its funny. in dbt I got told a lot about Radical acceptance but it didn't really click until it hit me like a damn lightning bolt. Radical acceptance is also a great way to reduce moral injury in the helping professions. moral injury is one of the biggest risk factors for burnout, depression, suicide, all of it.

Sensory processing, breathing exercises, “where is this emotion stemming from?”, or when therapists steer you to acknowledge a wack way of thinking
