For anyone asking if Hermes is free: yes, it’s completely free and open source. You just need somewhere to host it, whether that’s a VPS, your own server, or even your laptop. You only need a powerful GPU if you’re running a local AI model. Otherwise, a regular VPS is enough. Hermes is the body. It still needs a brain (an LLM). You can connect it to OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, a local model, or use Claude Code/Codex subscriptions depending on your setup. If you’re a heavy user, a subscription like Claude Code or Codex is usually more cost-effective than paying API fees. Once it’s set up, you can talk to Hermes through Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, and many other messaging platforms.
