God didn’t simply forgive sins without a sacrifice because of his perfect justice and holiness. Sin is not just a personal offense, but a violation of a perfectly moral universe. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ served as the ultimate payment for this moral debt. So according to the Bible, the "wages of sin is death". Because God is perfectly just, evil cannot be simply ignored. Justice requires a penalty to satisfy the moral order of creation.
