No offense intended, but it seems as though you're attributing the issue to his lack of communication, which comes across as an attempt to justify your own shortcomings. From my perspective, he chose to do those things for you without being asked. In the same way, I believe it is reasonable that he should not have to ask for the same in return. In a relationship, caring for one another should be a mutual responsibility rather than something that depends on being requested. That's simply my perspective.

People misunderstanding. Her point is not that "you should communicate" nor is this a topic of "if he wanted to he would. Her point was there must be no such thing, like a checklist or measurement. The moment you do that you begin to count and exhaust yourself. Her point is for both the partners to adjust to each other - whether that be communication or understanding each other well that it becomes automatic. Compromise is a two-way thing that requires both parties to give and to get. Just like what she says. It's either both wins or lose because in love you should not measure who gives and don't.
