No, I don’t usually go 4 Days without washing my hair…BUT sometimes life happens🤷🏻‍♀️ The difference? My scalp no longer gets greasy within hours of washing it. So here’s what I did to help rebalance my oily scalp microbiome and finally get my scalp under control: ✨1. Double shampoo, always! 1st cleanse removes product buildup, dirt and oils, 2nd cleanse - cleans the scalp. ✨2. Use clarifying shampoo 1x week as a 1st cleanse for a deep clean. ✨3. Don’t apply conditioner or hair mask to the roots. It leads to product buildup, weighs the roots down and contributes to that greasy look. ✨4. Use salicylic acid exfoliating treatment 1x week 20-30min pre-wash. Salicylic acid exfoliates the scalp and helps to regulate sebum production. ✨5. Hydrate your scalp every day by applying a hair serum - this stops your scalp from overproducing sebum to compensate for the lack of hydration. ✨6. Use a scalp serum with anti-fungal, anti-bacterial ingredients like Piroctone Olamine on alternative days to support healthy scalp skin barrier function and prevent bacteria overgrowth. ✨7. Never leave your hair to air dry. Damp hair/scalp is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria that can lead to combination of scalp issues. ✨8. Don’t use scorching hot water. I love hot showers, but always turn the temp down when washing my hair. Hot water strips away natural moisture and can trigger extra oil production as a reaction to dryness. ✨9. Clean your hairbrushes once a week. Hair brushes trap bacteria, dead skin cells and oils. You don’t want to reapply those nasties to your freshly washed hair. ✨10. Yes, you should use silk/satin pillowcases, if you don’t already. Cotton absorbs oils better and holds on that moisture - you don’t want that near your scalp. ✨11. Change your silk/satin pillowcase at least every 4 days! Freshly washed hair, 2nd day hair — flip — freshly washed hair, 2nd day hair — change. Give this routine a try for at least a month to see the results!✨ #fixoilyscalp #oilyscalp #healthyscalphealthyhair #incaseyourmomdidntteachyou #greasyhairtips
