People thinking they’re smart but refusing to use hard data collected by technology 😭

from a physics perspective, that graph makes zero sense. id bet money that it isnt actually what the ball produces and instead is just a made up visual. an impulse impact, especially a very shallow glance on a soft body shouldnt look like that, the time scales make no sense, there are zero other acceleration shown, and its somehow a perfectly smooth baseline. id go into more detail but regardless of what happened, what they are showing and hopefully not using is poor science and bad for the sport

FIFA started testing this tech in 2020 and it was used in the 2022 World Cup. You don’t think they already thought of this?

There was one touch recorded and there was only ONE BLATANT and OBVIOUS contact on the ball from Veiga. We’re also assuming this no tech has ZERO latency between ball contact and the camera feed. Come on.

A sphere showing that noticeable of a change in pressure must mean that the interior either had a sudden change of temperature through Charles’ law or a sudden change in volume through Boyle’s law. It is obviously a change in volume because it quickly dies off rather than a cooling curve and also where would increased heat come from? The change in volume has to come from the sphere getting squished by it hitting something.

When it’s in the best interest of FIFA financially, we should all be skeptical.

Does the sensor detect air pressure or acceleration?

This is the most cogent take on this I’ve seen. I think these things are set with their ‘accuracy’ too high. I think these things should have built in ‘fuzziness’, like, a higher threshold of contact (based on tests, like a ball flying past a person, a jersey, whatever. Same w offsides. If they don’t see it, and it’s (for example) 3” offside maybe that should stand as originally called? I don’t know. But I have the same beef w baseball.

the offside in colombia vs Portugal was bs too.

If you’re theory is that the ball moving fast past someone tricks the sensor, then surely they’d be aware that that’s something that could happen, and be able to distinguish it from real contact. The sensor is in the ball for the entire game, for every game, they’ve got plenty of data to compare against

If you can’t see it in real time with a naked eye we need to ask the question if technology is improving the game and the viewing experience. Many of the VAR usages are just not in the spirit of the game

Bro it’s measuring a spike at that moment. Meaning everything it was “feeling” before the contact, was still present and unchanging until something sudden happened. The answer is in the question and you said it like 8 times

The ball passes by players all the time. You really think they wouldn’t have thought of that?

I would guess that the pressure change is much sharper when it's kicked than when it's just traversing other waves in the environment

The ball doesn’t have a nervous system and henceforth cannot rlly feel the wind bc they can’t get cold from it. Basically ur argument only makes sense if that was the case

Also we have no labeled axis on that graph, no way to tell which event caused the “blip”

I just think calls should be made with the eyes of the referee alone, and then maybe give each team one opportunity to challenge a call with VAR per game.

It was his hair and it didn’t change the rotation speed or trajectory of the ball. It comes to a point……

Show the data from a ball passing by players or the goal post. They have lots of data.
