10 mm = 1 cm. 10 cm = 1 dm. 10 dm = 1 m. 1000 m = 1 km. 10 km = 1 mil. it just makes sense!!

A Swedish mile = 10 km. A Mile = 1,609 km. A nautical mile = 1,852 km. 😅A Swedish mile is superior to english mile since we use the metric system, and it just seamlessly blends. Also easier to say ”60 mil” rather than ”600 kilometers” 😁

it's such a convenient measurement. if you're driving anywhere far away it's easier to say like 50 mil instead of 500 km, and 10 mil takes about an hour if you're doing approximately 100km/h. very handy for roadtrips!

It's the Scandinavian mil, not Swedish.
Norway and Sweden defined the modern mil in 1889.
Mil comes from the latin "milia passuum" which means "a thousand steps", dobbelsteps or passus used by Roman legionaires used to be 5 roman feet. At the time a Roman mil was 1,5km. A norwegian mil was 11,3km, and a Swedish mil 10,7km.
These were based on the old "rast", defined as how long a mak could walk before needing a break.
It was later simplified to be 10km in Scandinavia to fit into the now introduced ✨️Metric system✨️

Saying this while on a boat is confusing. I thought you were going to talk about sjömil, a sea mile is different than a normal mile 😂

Before standardisation, pretty much every country had their own mile. The Scandinavian mile was unusually long, which meant it was well-suited to adapt to metric 😊

Scandinavia mile is older than metric system. Before it was 10688 meter. 1889 Sweden and Norway changed it to 10000 meters

In 1699 the Swedish mile was defined as exactly 18,000 Swedish ells (alnar), which equals 10.688 kilometers

The Scandinavian mile exits for the most part in Sweden and Norway, it exits to some extent in Finland and Denmark too. But only Norway and Sweden use it regularly.
