My cat was a stray kitten and she lived to be 18 years old and died of old age she hated when it got to crowded and she loved going outside to hide from anyone who wasn’t apart of my family but she was a great hunter cared for 2 kittens that weren’t hers and loved cuddling, cats have the instinct to run from danger unless they’ve never seen danger if you’re so worried about them killing things just put a bell collar on it so it scares prey away before it sees the prey my cat was thoroughly loved and I let her explore (no she was never infected cause we got her vaccinated from stuff and we took her to the vet at least once a year and she always came back healthy)

My cat is 11 and he refuses to stay inside. He’s a killer for sure, but he hunts voles and mice and keeps them out of my house and several of my neighbours houses. I put a bell on him so he can’t sneak up on birds. He loves outside. He’s out there 12 to 16 hours a day and he has a job. His job is to kill rodents and he’s damn good at it. I also love him very much and the opinion of a stranger on the internet doesn’t change that one bit

ive yet to see strong advice on how to make an outdoor cat an indoor cat. ive seen "just build a catio" but thimk for 5 seconds on why thats not easily available

my cat is 19 when I let him outside all he does is sunbathe on my patio and then come back in 20 min later. I also supervise him.

Where I live in Florida there is a HUGE conflict between people who want to feed, spay/neuter, and vaccinate stray cats vs those that want them rounded up and put down. So many people love cats, but have NO IDEA how bad even one cat is out in the wild. Even one can cause a ton of harm let alone hundreds in the local cat colony. The whole debate is so sad because many of those strays are due to irresponsible outdoor cat owners.

if you eat meat and drive a car then you're shortening your life and causing much worse environmental destruction than an outdoor cat. Quality of life over quantity TBH.

Cats don’t belong inside doing whatever they want on food preparing/eating surfaces and tearing stuff apart either. You can’t control them. It simply isn’t an option.
