If you were unhoused, what things would you personally want to be gifted to you? I would just ask the actual unhoused people what their personal preferences were because I know that if it were me in their shoes, I'd want someone to do that for me. Their likes and dislikes are just as important. They deserve to enjoy things just like housed people get to. They deserve this.

I made sets of salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning and paprika and put them in the community pantry at our library. they were much appreciated.

I work at a food pantry (we give dry/canned goods). I appreciate when people donate can openers because I find a lot of our clients can't open a lot of the stuff we give. We also reserve flip-top cans, easy to eat snacks, meal replacement drinks, etc for them. and I try to add plastic cutlery to all of their bags.

I do $20 cash cards for this reason (but it’s problematic but transportation/mobility can be an issue), with water, electrolytes, Tylenol/ ibuprofen, (I’ve never met a unhoused person not in pain), $15 McDonald’s gift card to cover next two meals (bc they’re on every other corner), socks (bc homelessness’s shelters commonly cite this as most requested item after food), and sanitary pads for women (same reason). But I’m going to take your advice and implement!

As an outreach worker in my community my clients always seem to appreciate body cleansing wipes, backpacks, Gatorade, protein shakes like ensure, sunscreen, flashlights etc
