As someone who worked in the hotel industry for over 10 years, working their way up from a front desk agent to a General Manager. The ONLY thing I miss and I mean the ONLY THING I missed is the employee discounts you were able to use while working there. I stayed in Cancun at Beach Front Property at a Marriott for $30 a night. I stayed in Puerto Rico, Key West and other locations for dirt cheap. I’d never go back tho the industry made me hate the public especially working thru covid.

If you get the opportunity try at least once working a shift with youth sports teams! they are always super fun and the parents are always understanding lol also don’t forget to print out your reports at least once a day I had to lean it the hard way

People really think that rules don’t apply to them. I never hesitate to ask for late checkouts if we want them, but I also understand if the answer is “no” or if there is a reasonable charge. Also, status as a guest matters. Are you a business traveler that is in the same property 3x a month and has status with the loyalty programs? If so, you’re probably more likely to get some deference and accommodation to bend rules if you don’t abuse the privilege.
