Buy a Japanese backpack, they’re supposed to last from elementary to high school graduation or many years at least

We’ve had my daughter’s Bentgo backpack going on 4 years now with no signs of visible wear at any of the seams so perhaps some of it is how kids treat their stuff? 🤷🏻♀️

girl- i had the same backpack from middle school to highschool. did i experiment here and there? yes but with my money. i always went back to the red jansport my mom and dad got me. also in elementary school i had the same hello kitty backpack for like 3 years? until it got really dirty to the point cleaning it wasnt worth it anymore. that’s when i got a new one. overconsumption is not good for this world nor for people. Kids will be fine even if things aren’t new. it’s the experience. if you raise children that something new and different is always good and they should always get that and deserve it, it can set them up poorly for their future lives. If things don’t need to change they shouldn’t. SOMETIMES change is good but change all the time means there’s a problem. Moderation is truly key here! So don’t sweat it!

It’s a part of growing up changing every year like getting new school supplies?? Isn’t that a part of it?? Didn’t everyone grow up like this 🥺

As some one that grew up poor i thought it was normal to get a new bag every year & after having boys Im lucky if a bag last a full year.

Yeah we don’t do new backpacks every year over here 🤪 including moms…. I use the same North Face bookbag for work that I’ve had since my second year of college 👏🏼

Am I parenting wrong? My son has a new backpack and lunchbox every single year. This is how I grew up!

The current problem is that backpacks are getting less and less durable. Backpacks used to last years, now the ones that are for sale (even jansport) only last a year MAYBE two, without ripping apart. It’s less of an overconsumption issue and more of a quality deflation problem. 🫠

I’ve bought new back packs every year but this year I washed the one from last year and that’s what he is using. It’s a burlebo so it should last

I re-use anything that isn’t broken or damaged. I’m not about to buy a new $20+ backpack per kid every year.

We ended up buying inexpensive backpacks every year through elementary school. In middle school I spent the extra money to get a good quality one and he ended up carrying it all through high school as well. So just depends I guess.

Wow didn’t know this was a issue growing up I always got a new back pack every year not the really expensive ones but the ones that were affordable and my mom would donate my old back pack to someone who needed it. I will be doing the same for my daughter bc it’s exciting to get a theme for ur backpack especially when starting a new year kids grow out things

My 3 kids had the same Jansport backpack from middle school to college. If the backpack breaks you send it back to the company to either be fixed or replaced. My kids are 27, 26 & 26 & still have theirs.

I let my kids get new ones every year. They go to a private school, and have to wear uniforms. Their backpack and shoes are all the get to pick out so I let them get new if they want. We donate the old ones.
