This cast was made from her face immediately after her execution in 1587 — meaning this is literally what she looked like on the last day of her life. She was 44 years old when her own cousin Queen Elizabeth I of England ordered her beheaded after 19 years of imprisonment. The executioner reportedly took three strikes to sever her head. When he held it up to the crowd her wig came off — revealing her real hair had turned completely grey from the years of captivity. That's a replica. The supposed original is at Lennoxlove House. There's no true consensus on whether that one is authentic or an effigy because on these she looks different from portraits.
