I am so thankful to have grown up with a grandmother who was an elementary school social studies teacher. Her husband loved knowledge and sold encyclopedias as his side hustle. I had hard copy Google at home as a child, and multiple people who believed in learning something new was a hobby

It’s because history has been neglected so badly since I was in school in the 90’s! I teach 8th grade US History 1607-reconstruction and it’s sad. Like I’m trying to teach students about places They have never been to but the same kids can’t tell me their address. And BTW addresses are a PreK-K standard!

Honestly, I've never thought about it. I know for sure I was never told in school what their specific ages were, and I guess I never thought to look it up. had you asked me before this, I would have guessed older than they were, but not elderly, simply because of life expectancy back then. 🤷♀️

I think part of this is that most of the portraits we see of them are from later on in their lives, when they were Presidents and statesmen. So those are the images people see when they imagine the founding. But those images are often from at least a couple decades after the Declaration was signed.

I had a social studies teacher, Mr. Brock, in 7th grade point that out. There are probably some adults today that don't know this.
