That hand wave gets mapped into 21 points across your knuckles. A hand scan is biometric data, the same category as a fingerprint or a face scan. Google says the clip isn’t tied to your identity, no audio is recorded, and it’s deleted after verification. That may be true. But it’s Google’s word, and there’s no way for you to confirm it. ⚠️ And notice the shift. For twenty years, proving you’re human meant clicking a photo. Now it means pointing a camera at your own body for a routine login. 🚩 It’s still a limited test, not a broad rollout. Most people won’t see it yet. 🚩 And within days, testers beat it with a plain stock photo of a hand through a virtual camera. No live person, no AI. So the trade on the table is real biometric data plus live camera access, to pass a check a still image already fools. That’s a bad deal. The check needs your permission, so if you’re ever prompted, you can decline camera access and look for another way to verify.
