@drgains_official: Researchers say no drug comes close to what the soleus can do for fat metabolism — yet you’re probably not training it! A 2022 iScience study found that activating the soleus — just 1% of your body mass — can raise whole-body oxidative metabolism by up to 300% above baseline, sustained for hours, with minimal glycogen use. In their words, “"We are unaware of ANY existing or promising pharmaceuticals that come close to raising and sustaining whole-body oxidative metabolism at this magnitude.” The soleus is ≥80% slow-twitch (the highest percentage of any muscle in the body by far), and can fire for hours without glycogen depletion. You isolate it specifically by doing seated heel raises with the knee bent — because that position puts the MUCH stronger and typically dominant gastrocnemius into active insufficiency, leaving the majority of the load for the soleus. You can do this on your stairs. Right now. No equipment needed. It’s likely the most under-utilized muscle in the body. Yet still just 7th on my Top 10 Most Underrated and Underworked Muscles list. Follow so you don’t miss the rest — they’re critical! #soleus #calftraining #fatloss #legday #fitnessscience
That can't be right. My Calves are jacked, but I'm still a fat fuck.

So this is what misinformation looks like. The study says that compared to just sitting and doing nothing at all. You burn 2/3 times more calories if you do this exercise. It did show a disproportionate amount of calories and being used. But you would burn significantly higher amounts of calories just simply standing to watch tv.

I just saw another study that said seated vs straight legged is less effective for the calve. It is so hard to know what to do when the advice is all over the place.

I play basketball so fast twitch is what i try to train for. I wanna take advantage of this while not giving up the fast twitch part and i wonder if there’s a big difference in slow reps and fast reps.
