They couldn't leave because south africa home affairs hold their visa renewal for 4yrs & more without any update of their immigration status. Alot of African migrants fall into this situation while south africa uses them as political tools.This is immigration slavery on a higher scale physiologically 🙄. You have to dive in deep to understand why alot of Africans outside SADC end up stranded in south africa. If you try to leave while waiting for home affairs to respond to your permit renewal, the immigration & police would arrest you & put you in jail if you try to leave. HEAVY SANCTIONS NEED TO BE IMPOSED ON SOUTH AFRICA GOVERNMENT. This has been going on for too long since early 2000's.
