100%, what truly motivated me in college was shifting from viewing education as transactional and instead appreciating each course and the knowledge i gained. what a blessing to learn and want to learn and to expand ones understanding of the world. never ever stop learning no degree is a waste

this is something i’ve struggled with all the time. because i love being in the classroom for the sake being in a space to share ideas and explore. and while development is important, i find it challenging that success has become a game a of accolades and/or passing just to get to the next level. all i want is to be in a space where i can continue learning and inspire others to love exploring and discovery.

One of the best professors i ever had failed me out of Gen Physics I. I retook the class during the summer with a different teacher, but signed up in the fall semester with the professor I loved for physics ii, which I barely passed. He was still one of my fav professors ever though, because he made me actually learn something rather than regurgitate information. Changed my life forever.

such great points. and it extends to adulthood - I have such a curiosity for so many subjects of study and now my time is taken by a career, when I wish I could remain in academics. reading and learning in my free time always remains a priority though

So true! I think the cost of education amplifies that, imagine if higher education was free or very accessible, would we not be more open to take different classes and be okay with not having it be an “investment” for your future but rather for your curiosity and expansion?

Growing up school was a means to an end but as an adult I look back and wish I studied more things I was curious in, not for any purpose other than to learn. We are so lucky to be able to be educated and given the space to learn and I wish we recognized that sooner. Really appreciate this video essay!

I have always felt that education is privilege oriented. especially during college. those who can barely afford to be there work 2 jobs to stay there losing opportunity and time to study more. I've also seen rich kids fail classes 3-4 times with no concern in the cost to continue being in college.
