Saying that sasunaru is a shipping that has come into existence purely because people have a fetish for yaoi would be quite an unfair simplification. While you have the liberty to see their relationship as anything from a simple friendship to a rivalry or romance, the reason people ship them is because the nature of their relationship is the best-developed relationship in the whole manga. Naruto and Sasuke’s entire story revolves around their relationship, their loneliness, their rivalry and their understanding of each other in a way no one else understands. Also, describing their relationship as “one-sided” is quite a reductionist statement about the other half of the story of Sasuke. While Sasuke might not show his feelings in the same way as Naruto, the manga clearly portrays Naruto as a person that influences Sasuke greatly and holds a special place in his heart.

It is kinda one sided, but the way Naruto tried so hard to bring him back, along with all their tension throughout almost every fight scene- not to mention how they kissed multiple times, it’s fair to see how people could ship it. One problem that I hate is people hating on Sakura and Hinata for no reason.
