I've been talking bathrooms for years. The first thing you need to do is clean the area with methylated. Spirits, that's an alcohol, kills any mould. Spores, after you lay the silicon, do not spray water, not even soapy water. If there are any spores under the silicon, the soapy water will let them germinate.

Never tape!! It can leave the edge rounded when pulled off allowing water to run behind the silicone and causing more problems

How long does it take to set? I’m redoing the silicone seal in my shower at home and I don’t want the silicone to dry up while I’m still lining another section before I can smooth it out.

No tape! Just make sure it’s dry then gun it in don’t worry about how it looks.. use soapy water only a little bit of dishwashing liquid mixed with water and then spray the silicone and use a round paddle pop stick holding firm against the tile.. once the excess is all removed with the stick then spray ur finger and slide ur finger over all the silicone, this is important so it sticks to the tile properly, with tape and no finger the silicone will never stay on properly for long
