This is very similar to why I think dragons were invented independently in so many cultures. Our little mammal ancestors had to survive for 300 million years in a world dominated by giant reptiles, so it makes sense that there's still some lingering fear and/or reverence hard coded into our genetic memory all these years later.

I certainly believe this. I’ve got a big fear of birds that don’t even exist anymore and I assume it’s because at one time my ancestors had to be worried about large birds. Specifically giant black birds that look like flying shadows. I’ve never seen one but I know I’m scared of it

For the elves I find it interesting that mushrooms found on two separate continents make you visualize and see tiny elves meaning there’s either something neurological built into us, or the mushrooms allow you to see differently.

Being in the army infantry and hunter my whole life I still have to hype myself up to walk alone at night in the woods and even then if step on a stick I turn into Usain Bolt dodging tree limbs and thorn bushes lol.

Ion even think this is a theory, I believe this is true, we still have a lot of insticts from our ancestors that we can’t just engineer to go away, we aren’t metal and wires, our functions come from constant survival, different experiences, etc. something’s machines can’t mimic when it’s comes to what makes us alive
