This whole discussion makes me realize how out of touch the modern day American is. People literally swam almost 100 miles from Cuba to Miami in order to get a better life and they think that that is comparable to having “bad food”. As an African living in Africa, growing up, America was the country where dreams came true. We'd see this watching TV shows like The Cosbys, Different Strokes, The Jeffersons, etc. Most TV shows were American and we consumed snd idolised the US from that. With time other countries improved in their economies and infrastructure. During the last 10 years, the lustre and shine of the US has declined, but was one of top countries to emigrate to, until 2024. I have a lot of family who are now US citizens and they love it and have thrived. The current admin has not helped with the repeal of certain laws, human rights issues, treatment of women and non-white people, but is not at the level of Afghanistan, certain Asian, North and East African countries. Is the US top of the list to visit as a tourist? At this particular moment, I dont think so, but it's only because of the current admin issues.

Our food isn’t even full of chemicals, at least not in the way that people think, since EVERYTHING has a chemical makeup, nor does it have more chemicals than European food. We’re just required to list the entire chemical composition of all the ingredients, that’s why it looks like it’s full of them. You can see 20 ingredients listed but it’s actually just the chemical composition of 4-5 ingredients. Also, they use the same ingredients in Europe, they just call them by a different name.

I think some people are so disconnected and privileged that they simply cannot imagine a place as horrible and corrupt as Afghanistan. They have never faced actual human rights abuse and probably don’t even know what it looks like. A lot of people don’t understand how much they actually have and that every right they take for granted was desperately fought for by someone who came before them.
