They were lost! Say thanks to Iran for saving your butt..when the Ottoman ( Sunni Muslim) Empire was conquering European Christian lands it couldn’t use all its resources in Europe due to sectarian conflict with the Shia Muslim empire, which ruled Iran and so the troops which were needed to conquer Vienna when ottomans were besieging it were on the eastern front fighting the Safavids!

Muslims would take over Europe and this isn't a speculation they took Spain and Portugal attacked many other EU countries and took over Syria Iran ..... so the crusades basically took back parts of what was straight up stolen from us and saved Europe from being completely lost

The Islamic extremism in the middle East today is a modern ideology that came about as a result of colonialism and exploitation. In fact if the crusades had never happened most likely the world would be in a much better position technologically. This is because in that era it was the opposite Europe was the the violent war torn region full of relgious extremists and the Islamic world was the center of knowledge and development but because of the crusades the Islamic world was damaged and this then assisted in the end of the Islamic golden age which probably set us back centuries in technological advancement.
