@chelsie_sewell: i used to believe that choosing my own happiness meant i was being selfish. if someone else was disappointed by or disagreed with my decision, i automatically assumed that i had done something wrong. so, i spent most of my life people pleasing, thinking that my ability to keep everyone else happy was what made me a good person. the problem was, no matter how hard i tried, it always felt like i was disappointing someone. then when i would try to make everyone else happy, i was the one left unhappy. now i protect my own happiness first. that doesn’t mean i stopped caring about other people’s feelings. i still care deeply. i still want the people i love to experience joy. but i no longer believe that their happiness should come at the expense of my own. and when i say happiness, i mean my joy. my health. my sanity. all the pieces that lead to me feeling peace in my life. that’s the difference between compassion and people pleasing. people pleasing asks you to abandon yourself to keep the peace. while healing teaches you that you can care about others without betraying yourself. if you’re recovering from people pleasing, learning to set boundaries, or trying to stop feeling guilty for choosing yourself, i hope this reminds you that your happiness matters too. 🤍 follow along for more support on healing people pleasing, building self-worth, and creating healthier boundaries. #selftrust #peoplepleasingrecovery #divorcedmom #healthyboundaries #peoplepleasing
