Chinese people also make an effort to learn the local language or use translation apps when they travel or live abroad. Likewise, when foreigners visit China, they shouldn’t complain that local people don’t speak English. Instead, they can try communicating in Chinese or use a translation app to bridge the language gap. People in China are not obligated to speak English, so it’s best not to assume that everyone should. It’s also unfair to laugh at or look down on someone because they don’t speak English. They are simply using their own language in their own country, where they live their daily lives. That said, many public places and popular tourist attractions in China do provide English services, English signs, and tourist assistance. More importantly, many Chinese people are willing to help visitors with kindness, even if they don’t speak fluent English. With a little patience and mutual effort, communication is usually not a problem.

China is mainly home tourists. Except for the central urban area of Shanghai, English services are generally not provided. And what would happen to the countries you went to in Europe and Southeast Asia without foreign tourists?

You're right, China has never planned to become a tourist destination. Its thousands of years of history have shaped its development path and social responsibilities.

Why dose China need to adapt to help foreigners, it should be on the foreigners to be prepared when they go to a foreign country knowing that China isn’t a native English speaking country.

English supremacy has reigned far too long. China may have its authoritarian issues but they understand this all too well

Most things were in Chinese and English from mid 2000s till early 2010s but they removed most of them and made them Chinese only by the late 2010s. The funny part was that google translate was bad back then so the English had a lot of funny and wrong translations

If you travel to Russian cities along the Sino-Russian border, you'll find those Chinese cities filled with Russian writing; if you go to Zhangjiajie, you'll find it filled with Korean writing. The Chinese aren't stupid; they won't ignore English-speaking tourists. If they don't, it just means the money isn't enough to motivate them to change. Ask the people around you how many have traveled to China, and you'll find the answer.🥰

The general attitude of Chinese people towards foreign tourists is probably: Oh? You like China a lot? That's great, welcome to China. (And they will try their best to help you overcome problems.) If you don't like China, or feel uncomfortable or unhappy because China doesn't have a good English-speaking environment, then it's simple: leave the country and don't come back. No one will lose anything from it.
