I had my first group project in college and I brought up something I was interested in and one girl immediately shut me down, but then another girl spoke up and said, “I don’t know what that is either, but can you continue talking about it?” I wanted to cry, cause she was the only one who stopped to listen. I love when people reciprocate being genuine.

I had a friend that when we started hanging out I would get us coffee as a treat - I started seeing her more often and would pick her up, she would ask to go to sb and then not take out her money at the window so I would just pay for it. I was in college working full time at a retail store, ended my shift at 10pm, she asked me to pick her up bc she was sad, so I did and was gonna take her to the water to calm down/talk and she asked me to stop and get food, she ordered what she wanted, we got to the window to pay, and she stayed there looking the other way. After spending hundreds of dollars on being the only one paying for anything in the friendship, I finally said something because I’m a broke college student with bills, and I was labeled the bad friend and it just felt one sided. Later I see her repost something exactly like this post - it’s so scary some people can’t understand the difference between caring generosity out of care vs. taking complete advantage of someone. I agree with this post but it’s so important to pick friends who make u feel special too.
