@fluscheeitaway: Unpopular opinion: summer is better skinny. I know that’s going to make some people mad, but hear me out. We’ve all heard it: “Just wear the swimsuit. Wear the shorts. Your body deserves to enjoy summer.” And I agree with the heart behind that message. But as someone who weighed almost 400 pounds, I can also tell you it’s so much easier to say than it is to live. Summer was my biggest insecurity. I’d plan exactly how I was going to get out of the pool so no one would see my legs. I’d leave my towel right at the edge of the pool so I could wrap myself up as fast as possible. I’d wear pants in the middle of summer because I couldn’t stand the thought of anyone seeing my body. Sitting in lawn chairs was uncomfortable. Walking around in the heat was miserable. Every invitation to the pool or lake came with anxiety instead of excitement. So yes, I believe everyone deserves to enjoy summer exactly as they are. But I also know firsthand that when you’re carrying hundreds of extra pounds, it’s not as simple as just deciding to be confident. Losing the weight didn’t just change my body. It changed my summers. Now I swim with my kids. I wear the shorts. I take the pictures. I don’t spend every second wondering what everyone else is thinking. If you’ve never lived in a 400-pound body, it’s hard to understand just how freeing that is. @Shameless Snacks
