I like the sandwich metaphor.
Early childhood is like gathering ingredients. around 7-9 most people use the ingredients to form a whole sandwich. But with DID it's like tripping and dropping the ingredients instead.
You wouldn't point at the mess and ask which part of it was the original sandwich because there never was a full sandwich. just a bunch of things that COULD have been a sandwich if it hadn't all gotten dropped on the floor instead.

so instead of one part being the original whole part, its more like all of your parts are part of the whole?

We used to have hosts that would switch out pretty regularly, but we haven't had a single host in years now. Just kinda a group project at this point

Is this why we somehow gain consciousness at about 5? Because everything merges together?

how i usually explain it to others is that THEY ALSO began with multiple parts, but they fused into one person but i didnt.

For example, I’m Jane, but everyone knows the body as Charlotte. I’m the 3rd host at this point and I have no idea how long I’ll be here. Here’s hoping I last a while 😅

Hello, what would be the initial signs of a system created in a young child? Or would a system only develop with maturity?

my favourite analogy/argument I came across about how The Core theory doesnt really work , is the Broken Plate. if a plate breaks, which piece is the original part? some parts are bigger, some are smaller, but they are all part of the same whole plate, none is more "The Original" than the other.

does it feel like a loss when alters fuse or "go away"?

I knew this already thanks to the heartbreaking experience of a friend's host changing and not getting to see my buddy as much. (the new host was not that nice) so unfortunately had to end that friendship as it turned toxic

This might be a stupid question, but could it happen that like the majority of the personality fuses and then for instance the part that was responsible for sadness stays separate? Would that just make two normal alters or would that make a normal alter and one what only fronts when sadness is required?

We came up with a good question to explain this. "If a team of architects make a building, who is the original designer?"
.
we cycle though hosts like it's nobody's buisness. Currently, our "host" is a subsystem

Our old host got too overwhelmed and had too many breakdowns and now I'm apparently the new host. thought I was just front stuck at first.
