@dear.glow.up.diary: I finally went to a skin clinic about the pigmentation on my forehead… and left feeling defeated. 😔 The treatment plan was around $2,000, and that’s just not realistic for me right now. I’m not giving up though. I’m going to document my journey, explore affordable options, and see what actually works. If you’ve dealt with pigmentation or melasma, I’d love to hear your tips in the comments. 🤎✨ #Pigmentation #Melasma #SkincareJourney #RealSkin #SkinConfidence

Before you start using actives (retinol/tretinoin, azelaic acid, glycolic acid) to treat the melasma spend some time finding a sunblock that you like. Get in to the habit of using it and reapplying then slowly start adding in actives. Melasma is triggered by the sun and will get worse if you're using actives and don't use sunblock religiously. Good luck!

Melasma is so hard to treat I have had it really bad and now it’s not as noticeable. I use tretinoin at night then Azelaic acid and vitamin c in the morning. Also using a spf50 that has a tint is helpful. I microneedle every month and I think that has been helping aswell.

This was my melasma with BB cream over it and possibly a Paris filter… It’s almost completely gone - 2nd photo of current in comments and a pic of the Nida product I used for 3 months morning and night as part of a routine.

Go to a dermatologist. They can prescribe a cream called Tri-Luma. It has hydroquinone, Tret, and mild steroid. The derm might cost a few hundred dollars, but the triluma is affordable ($50) in Australia. Don’t do any lasers!

Cosmelan and Dermamelan peels are your best option. Pricey, but they work. Everything else is a waste of time and $$ in my opinion

Retinol and vitamin c. Don’t apply them on your face together alternate them. Retinol helps with skin renewal which will help bring the pigment to the surface. Vitamin c is great for pigment and helps to brighten the skin. As a beauty therapist I know treatments can be expensive but using good products with good ingredients on its own can help with it. Treatments tend to just speed up the process but aren’t 100% needed if you can’t afford them. Skin clinics unfortunately sometimes just think about money rather then helping clients work within there budget. SPF is also a big thing it will help prevent more pigment from developing especially since retinol can cause sun sensitivity.

I’ve been using John plunkets hydroquinone fading cream from chemist warehouse. It’s taken about 8 weeks of using it morning and night and it’s working!!! I’m so excited! I’ve had heaps of laser treatments in the past and they only work for a while then it comes back.

Go to a Dermatologist and ask for Kligmans cream, in Australia 3months worth of cream is $70. It is the only thing that has worked for me!
