If you’re relocating soon, don’t wait until you’re already in Canada before realizing an important document is sitting somewhere back home. Here’s a more organized checklist to work with 👇🏾 ✈️ 1. IMMIGRATION & IDENTITY DOCUMENTS Keep your important originals in your hand luggage, not your checked baggage. • Valid passport • Confirmation of Permanent Residence if coming as a PR • PR visa, if applicable • Work permit or study permit documents, if applicable • Birth certificates • Marriage certificate, if applicable • Divorce, custody or other relevant family documents, if applicable • Copies of important immigration correspondence you may need Also keep secure digital copies of your important documents and separate photocopies where appropriate. 🎓 2. EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL DOCUMENTS Don’t assume you’ll never need the originals again. Consider bringing: • Degrees and diplomas • Academic transcripts • Professional licences and certificates • Training certificates • Employment/reference letters from previous employers • Evidence of previous work experience • Credential assessment documents (ECA/WES report), if you already completed one If you’re entering a regulated profession, research the licensing body for your destination province before travelling. Your qualification from home may not automatically allow you to practise in Canada. 👩🏾👧 3. IF YOU’RE RELOCATING WITH CHILDREN This is one section I would take very seriously. Bring each child’s: • Birth certificate • Passport and immigration documents • School reports/records • Relevant educational assessments • Vaccination/immunization records • Relevant medical records • Current prescriptions, if applicable • Custody/consent documentation where applicable Keep each child’s documents together rather than mixing everything into one big family file. 🩺 4. HEALTH & MEDICAL RECORDS Consider travelling with: • Immunization records • Relevant medical history • Current prescriptions • Copies of important test results or specialist reports where necessary • Eyeglass/contact lens prescription if you use them • Dental information if there’s ongoing treatment Healthcare eligibility differs by province and immigration status, so research the rules for the province you’re actually moving to rather than assuming the same process applies everywhere. 🚗 5. DRIVING DOCUMENTS If you drive, don’t leave your driving history until after you relocate. Consider bringing: • Your valid original driver’s licence • Any official driving experience/authentication document required by your destination province • Relevant driving history documents The rules are provincial. For example, a new Ontario resident can generally use a valid foreign licence for 60 days, but the process for getting an Ontario licence depends on where the licence was issued and your previous driving experience. So check your province’s current requirements BEFORE travelling. 💼 6. EMPLOYMENT DOCUMENTS Before leaving, gather: • Updated résumé • Reference letters • Employment confirmation letters • Professional portfolio if relevant to your career • Professional certifications • Contact information for previous employers/referees And don’t rely only on one generic résumé after arriving. Canadian employers may expect you to tailor your résumé to the particular role you’re applying for. 💰 7. FINANCIAL RECORDS Depending on what you’ll be doing after arrival, it may also be useful to have access to: • Recent bank statements • Proof of funds documents used for your immigration process, where applicable • Relevant financial records • Records showing your financial history if you think you may need them Not everybody will be asked for the same documents, but retrieving records from another country after you’ve moved can sometimes be much more stressful than bringing or securely storing them beforehand. Save this for when your approval finally comes through 🇨🇦✈️ and send it to someone preparing to relocate. #visaapproved #nigeriantiktok🇳🇬 #canada_life🇨🇦 #fypシ #viralvideo
