@robdwillis: One of the most persuasive speeches ever recorded (3-move structure) This is one of the most persuasive political speeches ever recorded. The key is not the policy. It is the storytelling. Lyndon Johnson moves through three beats. First, the world he builds. Not 'I cared about poverty.' But 'I taught in Cotulla, Texas. The kids came to class without breakfast. Hungry.' Proximity, not power. Concrete, not abstract. Second, the emotional anchor. He shifts from describing a classroom to describing a moral injury. 'You never forget what poverty and hatred can do when you see the scars on the hopeful face of a young child.' Third, the turn into power. 'I never thought in 1928 I would be standing here in 1965. But now I do have that chance. And I mean to use it.' By the time he says it, action does not sound like a policy statement. It sounds like the only possible conclusion. Which speech do you think is the most persuasive ever recorded? Drop a name below. 🎙️ Chief Story Officer #storytelling #communication #publicspeaking #leadership #persuasion

As a Hispanic kid growing up in south Texas we felt his largess, especially after the hurricane of 1967. Thanks to LBJ’s help, we rebuilt South Texas better than ever.

Love him or hate him but he was one of the most consequential presidents of the 20th century, and also of all time.

For all his failings personally and for the deaths in Vietnam, I can’t help but like LBJ for civil rights, voting rights, Medicare and Medicaid.

Reminds me of when he had just become president and he wanted to get the civil rights bill passed. His advisors told him it was too risky, to which he said “What the hell is the presidency for?”

Well, I thank you for teaching us about persuasion but mostly I thank you for putting Linden B Johnson in a very humanitarian light growing up witnessing the Vietnam war I had concluded he was a bad man and I know that is wrong, but I never heard him give that speech

Can you imagine Trump ever sharing a personal moment or thought a moment where he truly felt something for someone else who was struggling? Me neither.
