Lual Diing Wol Reec - well-known (Baba Africa) & (Lan Bar). لول ديينق وول ريج - بابا افريكا - لان بار He was a military officer, liberator, and politician. He was born in Majok Diing Wol village, Ariath Payam, Aweil North County, in 1933. Baba Africa was the son of Chief Diing Wol of Atokthou and a grandson of Wol Reec, one of the Dinka Malual heroes who fought against Turkish-Egyptian rule in southern Sudan in the 19th century. Honourable Lual Diing started primary education in Aweil and completed his secondary school at Juba Commercial School. Lualdit joined politics in the 1960s and became a member of the Sudan African National Union Party (SANU). After the Addis Ababa Agreement in 1972, he was elected several times to the regional parliament in Juba. In 1983, Lualdit joined the SPLA/M and became one of the battalion commanders. He was a member of the SPLM/A delegation to Libya to acquire weapons in the 1980s. Commander Lualdit was a commander of Majunun 3 Battalion in Jekou in 1987. In 1989, he commanded the Intifada Battalion, which was mostly composed of sons of the Mundari tribe, and he was deputized by Alternate Commander Peter Panhom Tanypiny. His battalion ambushed General Isaiah Paul of the Sudanese Armed Forces in Equatoria. Commander Lualdit participated in the first talks in Addis Ababa between the SPLA and the military coup government in Khartoum (The National Salvation Revolution) in 1989. Commander Baba Africa had served as a political adviser to the SPLM leader besides his military command. Baba Africa was appointed to the SPLA Military and Political High Command in 1989 in Kidepo, Eastern Equatoria. The high command was the upper military and political body in the rebellion movement. Following the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2005, he became a member of parliament in Juba and served as an adviser to the president of the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS). Baba Africa was a member of the SPLM political bureau until he died. Lan Bar was well-known for his wise words and funny jokes among his comrades. Honourable Lual Diing died at the Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi on February 8th, 2016, after suffering from a long illness. His legacy remains, and he will be remembered as a great hero who fought bravely to liberate his people.
