This isn’t ignoring the ball boy - this is mistreating the ball boy. In other sports, it comes with penalties.

I’ve seen comments talking about delaying time by holding the ball. Even if this was true, it’s very unsportsmanlike to treat another person, ESPECIALLY a child so poorly.
