There is more to his statement. He made the announcement afte being told that they won’t back him at the next election. He was calling their bluff when he understood that the party was not united in that decision. So he announced his retirement and got the respond from the crowd ( the respond he wanted). Some in the crowd saying “no” were his cabinet ministers. They party were going to back BB Darboe for the next election.
