I put my cooler inside another cooler then wrap it with house wrap and put that cooler inside a deep freezer then put that deep freezer inside another larger deep freezer. Then i build a makeshift roof over that with a large fan blowing air on it. Then I lay 10 25lb bags of ice around the outside of the make shift roof area. That will keep ice for about a year if you constantly have power to both deep freezers.

No, cooler lids are not supposed to be filled with water. The hollow space in a cooler lid is designed to trap air, which provides essential insulation to keep the inside of the cooler cold.While a popular social media hack claims you can remove the lid plug, fill it with water, and freeze it to create a giant ice pack, manufacturers strongly advise against it for several reasons:Decreased Insulation: Air is a much better insulator than water or ice. Great idea! I bet if you put Vaseline around the hole before you put the filler in it won’t leave any residual from the foam.

Ok so to do this and save yourself the excess cleanup you can tape up the lid with painters tape to keep the expansion foam from getting allover the inside of the lid. You can pop the foam off then just peel the tape off clean. Then if you want to plug the holes to keep moister out make sure drill on the flat parts of the lid so you can use push fasteners like in the photo to plug the holes.

Most ice chests that do not have insulated lids have removable lids with holes in the lids that are meant to be removed and had some water put in and frozen in advance.
