This is my mom, Grace! Some of you will recognize her from the past times I’ve shared her lifting clips. She is currently 63 years old, and she has been lifting weights 1-2x/week for the past few years. Admittedly, she wasn’t always super sold on lifting weights. At first, she agreed to train with me only when I kept her workouts to 20min in length. But this was fine with me as it got her to show up, and I knew short workouts were far better than none at all! Now, as she’s gained confidence in the gym and she’s experienced the carryover into her daily life, she’s more willing to do longer sessions with more volume. I have her do full body workouts - usually 3 lower body and 3 upper body exercises, plus maybe a core exercise depending on time and how she’s feeling. She’s moving really well, and she’s super fit. In addition to lifting weights, she also plays golf several days a week and walks many many steps every day. I don’t over-coach her or nitpick her form, and I keep the atmosphere light, positive, and fun. It’s important to me that she works hard in the gym but also doesn’t feel discouraged or stressed so she keeps wanting to come back. One of my favorite things is when she excitedly tells me how her strength training has leveled up her golf game. And as an added bonus, training her gives us extra quality time together, plus it gets me to work on my Konglish (Korean + English hybrid) skills. My hope is that she continues to lift well into her 70s, 80s, and beyond. Strength training is for EVERYONE, no matter your age! #FitnessTips
