@ieatbricks007: What if the iceberg had breached just ONE less compartment? 🚢 Would Titanic have survived? Context: The Titanic was designed to stay afloat with up to four of its forward watertight compartments flooded. The iceberg damage is generally understood to have flooded more than four, sealing the ship's fate. If just one fewer compartment had flooded, the ship might have remained afloat long enough to reach nearby help or for a full evacuation. It's one of history's biggest "what ifs." #titanic #History #whatif #oceanliner #shiptok
I feel like the design was flawed… but I’m not an aquatic engineer. But they were not actually “watertight” you could get over the top of them on E deck. So technically as the first compartments started to fill, they would over flow into the next, and the next, and the next… just as Thomas Andrews stated in the movie. I guess the only thing to offset that would be the sheer length of Titanic from front to back? My point is even with 4 it would still sink eventually? Someone feel free to correct me though?

HUNTER THE TRUE ALPHA AARON :
actually I don't think you would have went that far down if it breached one compartment they might have still be able to go on to New York with one compartment breached

Well…..if it breached only 4 compartments it wouldn’t be capsized it would stay afloat

We now understand that damage affected six compartments, overwhelming the vessel and causing it to sink, according to the idea that losing just one fewer (5) would still have led to foundering. While four damaged sections might not have caused sinking, three or fewer would have significantly improved survival odds.

It always makes me wonder why the watertight compartments were open at the top because water just spilt over from the 4th into the 5th when maybe it didn’t have to had they closed each one off.

1 less compartment it wouldn't have sank at all it was designed around 4 flooded compartments but not 5 so one less it would have made it back

Answer: Yes, the ship would have stayed floating if one less compartment was breached. It was designed to do so. Ship wouldnt be famous though. Titanic is famous for its tragedy. Sure, its large for the time, but that would not have mattered nearly as much if it didnt sink. Without the tragedy, it would have faded into history not really talked about as many things do.

it could have taken more water without sinking if it wasn't all in the forward compartments mr Andrew said that but the way it was taking on water it was doomed

The idea here is good. It would have been less sunk than in this video. The front wouldn’t have been as low into the water but the idea of it not moving is correct

The water tight compartments only went up to E deck though, so I really don't understand how the designers thought the ship could stay afloat with four compartments flooded when really the shop would've sank anyway had the hole only been in the first compartment

RMS TITANIC HALLOWEEN :
If only one compartment was flooded, then the ship wouldn’t think because of the hull the double hull in the compartment where the water is supposed to flood, but if a water tigh doors close then it will stay in the one compartment and the others will be safe

If the water is over the well deck it’s still game over, realistically having F deck under would be more realistic lol

no it would not have been sinking at all it would keep floating as it’s first 4 compartments are water tight and can’t make the ship sink therefore reaching NY with a smooth ride still

Considering how low the top of the water tight compartments were I’m not positive she would have survived even with one less compartment punctured. This is definitely a good what if scenario tho.
