Redneck is not a race. I know white, black, Korean, Mexican, and Chinese rednecks. God bless America

I'm from WV, here we were taught that the phrase redneck came from coal miners wearing red bandanas to signify their protest during the coal miner wars against the corporations.

Redneck was a term used by racist against poor white farmers who had rednecks because of being in the sun all day.

In the context of the American labor movement and Appalachian history, the term for a striking worker or union member who wore a red bandana—famously associated with the Kentucky and West Virginia coal miner strikes—is a Redneck.Historically, while the term gained widespread traction around the 1920s Mine Wars, the wearing of red bandanas by union miners began as a symbol of solidarity during the earlier 19th- and 20th-century labor disputes.

yes people need to understand that black people consider themselves redneck because they work hard and are loyal to their friends and family

One of the other backstories behind the term is from the strike at Blair mountain everyone had a red bandanna, and everyone stood together whether you where white as white or black, as long as you were working class. And I wish nowadays we as a society could do something like this but they use the 2 party system to stop that

Except for being a sharecropper, I am a redneck, but it comes from sharecropping unlike their native or black neighbors. Whites didn’t have sunscreen so part that was the most exposed was the back of their neck, and it would turn bright red with the burns and the most common cheap handkerchief was a red one so you buy those to wrap around your neck to keep the burns from getting dirt in them until they heal up.

There’s two different versions I’ve heard . One is that the Scott’s in the Appalachia wore red scarfs during the revolution, and then I heard that people who worked for the coal companies wore red bandanda around their I neck
