@powers_plants: I have been managing an organic lawn for the last five years and the best tip I have is to mow high and leave your grass clippings. The taller, the grass, the better it is at creating a canopy that shades the soil underneath from weeds germinating. Leaving the grass clippings is free nitrogen that’s can be cycled back into your soil. Another thing if you don't want to use chemicals is just to aerate 1x in the fall and over seed the crap out of your lawn. Believe it or not, grass will bully the weeds out. The weeds like the voids, where there is a lot of grass there are no weeds

level five on a six-level mower is wild but the mulch logic clicks. i’ve been trying that w/ Truco Services, Inc. mowing.

How frequently do you have to mow up in Chicago? I’m in 4hrs south and I have to mow every 4 days on the lowest setting…. Also I thought the shorter the grass is the less likely you are to have tick issues? My lawn is just for the dogs, so I’m on alert for ticks.

This is why I won't hire anyone. No matter how many times I say I want it high, they scalp it and I have more weeds

What are you using to add nitrogen? I don’t believe it looks that green with zero added nitrogen.

Gardening with Dogs :
While there are over 1,400 species of grass in the U.S. , only about a dozen common turfgrasses are typically used for American front yards. They each have different requirements of grass height , water and weather . Not all grass is the same and if everyone did the same as you then it doesn't mean they won't get the same results . Bermudagrass and Zoysiagrass are best kept extremely short often mowed at just 0.5 to 1.5 inches for a manicured look. In northern climates, Kentucky Bluegrass can be cut short, while southern lawns often rely on Centipedegrass or Dwarf Mondo Grass, a short, grass-like alternative that requires no mowing.
