Here is (likely) an unpopular opinion ... if you decide to donate money to someone's situation ... no matter what it's a "risk" you take. Just because you donate to their situation doesn't mean they're going to live the life you want them to live. It's like giving money to someone that needed it for a "TV or furniture" or whatever and they spent it on going on vacation. I would never ask people (strangers especially) for donations and not use them "according to what they were meant for" HOWEVER I also know if I donate to a stranger for a cause (especially recent relationship situations) I know they could use the money for something else and/or go back to the bad situation they were in. I donate knowing I tried to help and at the end of the day we cannot control anyone's life.
