Hail Mary means “a last-ditch effort” not “a long-shot” they’re different because in a Hail-Mary, failure means an overall loss. That’s not always true when taking a long-shot.

As an American "Bob's your uncle" is not strictly British. It's VERY rare nowadays but heard it often growing up. It was usually used after a person said something obvious.
